STRUCTURE FIRE @3500 BLK OF CR 398, TYLER – 12/17/2022

Not all structure fire calls result in significant property damage; on this particular call, Smith County ESD2 Firefighters and Volunteers worked together to save a home from extensive damage.

At 10:07PM on Saturday, Jackson Heights Fire, Chapel Hill Fire, Winona Fire, and Red Springs Fire were dispatched to a reported structure fire on County Road 398 near the Jackson Ave intersection. Initial reports stated a fire was in a bedroom, with all occupants evacuating.

Jackson Heights Engine 1 arrived on scene, advising incoming units that there wasn’t any smoke visible from the street. Upon further investigation around the structure’s exterior, smoke was found coming from the backside of the house, indicating a possible attic fire. Second-arriving units were tasked with obtaining a water supply as firefighters went in the interior of the structure.

Once the power and utilities were secured, making for safer operation on the fireground, firefighters were able to work towards locating the source of the fire. Luckily, the fire had not extended into the attic and was contained to a single bedroom. A control time was called for the fire at 10:27PM. A Deputy from the Smith County Fire Marshal’s Office was on scene for fire investigation, as well as UT EMS standing by for any needed medical assistance.

Great work, ladies and gentlemen!
