Mill Creek Prescribed Burn and Training 2023

In February 2023, we had the fantastic opportunity to attend the 2023 Mill Creek Prescribed Burn and Training Event, which took place at the beautiful Mill Creek Farm in Wood County, Texas. This invitation gave us an incredible chance to witness firsthand the world of wildland firefighting, incident command, wildland fire mitigation, and forest conservation.

During the three-day event, around 100 firefighters from all over Texas gathered to gain valuable experience and earn and complete certifications. It’s important to note that wildland firefighting is entirely different from the traditional structural firefighting portrayed in movies and TV shows. We were fascinated by this type of firefighting’s complex and challenging nature, and gained an even greater appreciation for the bravery and dedication of those who put their lives on the line to protect our forests and communities.

We’ve been working on a unique project since attending the Mill Creek Prescribed Burn and Training Event, which we’ll announce soon! In the meantime, here is a quick video and some pictures we captured during our two days at Mill Creek Farm, giving you a glimpse into the beauty and intensity of wildland firefighting.

More to come!

STRUCTURE FIRE @ 22400BLK LAKEWAY HARBOR DR, FLINT – 2/27/2023

At approximately 10 PM, Smith County ESD2’s Battalion 1, Captain 1, Noonday, Flint-Gresham, and Bullard Fire Departments were dispatched for a reported residence on fire. Upon arrival, Noonday Fire Engine 1 reported that the mobile home was fully involved in flames.

Fortunately, all occupants were accounted for and outside the residence. Smith Co. Sheriff Deputies were on hand to help, and UT EMS staged nearby for any potential injuries.

Due to the lack of fire hydrants in the immediate vicinity, firefighters relied on Engines and Tanker trucks to supply water to the scene. Despite this obstacle, the firefighters worked quickly and efficiently, resulting in a control time to be called at 10:35PM.

The Smith County Fire Marshal’s Office was present at the scene to investigate the incident, and the Coffee City Fire Department also responded to help.

No injuries were reported, but the mobile home was deemed a total loss. The cause of the fire is unknown to Emergency Media, and no further information has been released.

SEVERE WEATHER & STRONG WINDS CAUSE DAMAGE THROUGHOUT TYLER – 4/12/22

Storms tore through Tyler last night, causing quite a bit of damage. Dozens of fallen trees, and power poles snapped in half, and thousands were left without power. Many homes and vehicles were destroyed as a result of the storm.

A few Intersections and roads are still blocked by fallen trees and debris. Intersections without power, usually controlled by traffic lights, are to be considered a 4-way stop.

City of Tyler, Texas Government, City of Tyler Police Department, City of Tyler Fire Department, Oncor, and many others have been working around the clock to restore Tyler to normal.

Here are just a few pictures of the damage.
