TYLER POLICE BODY CAM FOOTAGE OF AGGRAVATED ASSAULT ON A PEACE OFFICER - 5/13/25![]()
"On Sunday, May 11, at around 2:09 p.m., Tyler Police responded to a theft at Dollar General on Gentry Parkway. Although the investigation into this incident is not complete, the evidence, including the officer’s body camera video, shows that an officer located two suspects nearby. While one complied with detention, the other tried to walk away and resisted when ordered to stop. During the struggle, a backup officer arrived to assist with the arrest. The suspect continued to resist arrest and grabbed an officer’s firearm, discharging the weapon. To prevent further escalation and the use of deadly force, an officer quickly utilized a closed-hand strike. Shortly afterward, the suspect was taken into custody.
During detainment, she claimed to be pregnant. The suspect was evaluated by Tyler Fire EMTs and transported to the Smith County Jail, where medical staff conducted a secondary evaluation. The suspect was identified as Brianna Erwin. She was transported and booked into the Smith County Jail on an outstanding warrant for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, two counts of Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Resisting Arrest, Evading Arrest/Detention, and harassment of a Public Servant. Theft-related charges remain under investigation.
Tyler Police are committed to transparency and will continue to provide updates as the investigation progresses."![]()
