“On June 5, 2025, at approximately 7:00 p.m., Tyler Police Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 3100 block of Cascades Court which came out originally as a suspicious person but later changed to a disturbance with a subject inside of the home. Officers entered the residence which later resulted in an officer involved shooting. ![]()

The subject was transported to a local hospital by EMS where he was pronounced deceased. He has been identified as John Augustine Tangney O’Kelly, a 38-year-old male from Tyler.![]()

In accordance with departmental policy, the investigation has been turned over to the Department of Public Safety Texas Rangers.![]()
